Poly Bag Plants (RRII-105) are conventional rubber planting materials raised in polythene bags following recommended nursery practices, using the popular RRII-105 clone developed by the Rubber Board of India. This variety has been widely planted across India and is well known for its contribution to improved rubber productivity. The RRII-105 clone is recognized for its high yield potential, good girth development, and consistent field performance under suitable management practices, making it a familiar and trusted choice for traditional rubber cultivation. In the poly bag system, however, limited space can lead to root coiling and bending of the tap root if plants are retained longer in the nursery. Poly bag plants are also heavier to handle and transport, generate plastic waste, and may show slower root regeneration and field establishment when compared to advanced planting systems. By contrast, root trainer plants encourage air-pruned, well-branched root systems with intact tap roots, resulting in faster establishment, better anchorage, and higher survival rates after planting.
