Marigold, commonly grown varieties belonging to the genus Tagetes, is a popular flowering plant admired for its bright yellow, orange, and golden blooms widely used for decoration and religious purposes in Kerala. It thrives well in the state’s warm climate, growing best in temperatures between 18°C to 35°C. Marigold prefers full sunlight (at least 5–6 hours daily) and grows best in well-drained, moderately fertile soil rich in organic matter. Regular but moderate watering is essential, while waterlogging should be avoided to prevent root diseases. In Kerala conditions, flowering is prominent during cooler and dry seasons, though it can bloom well throughout the year with proper care. Regular pinching and removal of faded flowers encourage bushier growth and continuous blooming, making marigold ideal for garden beds, pots, borders, and commercial flower cultivation.
