Hopea ponga, commonly called eetti, is a tall evergreen tree native to the Western Ghats and valued for its strong, durable timber. It grows well in warm, humid tropical climates with ambient temperatures around 22–34 °C. The tree prefers high rainfall (about 1500–3000 mm annually), partial to full sunlight, and well-drained laterite or loamy soils. Regions such as Kerala provide ideal conditions for its growth due to the warm temperatures, high humidity, and monsoon climate.
