Calathea lutea ‘Red’ (often called Red Cigar Calathea) is a striking tropical foliage plant known for its large banana-like green leaves with a deep burgundy to reddish underside. In Kerala’s warm and humid climate, it thrives exceptionally well in partial shade or filtered sunlight. It prefers fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter and consistent moisture without waterlogging. Ideal temperatures range between 20–35°C, making Kerala’s climate highly suitable. High humidity enhances leaf vibrancy and overall growth. Regular watering, mulching, and occasional organic compost feeding will keep the plant lush and dramatic throughout the year.
